OBITUARY

Mr. Derek Kyle Hopkins, age 51, 767 Shiflett Road, Silver Creek, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012.


Mr. Hopkins was born in Floyd County on October 30, 1960, son of the late George W. Hopkins and the late Doris Poole Hopkins. He was a 1978 graduate of East Rome High School and attended Floyd College and Coosa Valley Technical College, where he earned his Electronics Technician certification. He was employed as a field representative for N. C. R. for over 15 years. Prior to his becoming disabled, he was employed with Coosa Valley Communications here in Rome for several years. Mr. Hopkins was a H. A. M. Radio enthusiast and was a trained storm spotter and worked with the local E. M. A. with emergency weather notifications. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Jane Patterson, to whom he was married on June 12, 1993; 2 step-sons, Chad Moore, Rome, and Jay Moore, Albany; a sister, Mrs. Jana McCurry, and her husband, Stephen, Rome; 2 nephews, Joshua McCurry, Cartersville, and Robert McCurry, Rome.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Batchelor officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
